Ideal Media, a YouTube channel dedicated to complaining and telling it as it is about all things cars reveals 15 of the worst engines ever made. There is no idealization about the car in this video, it is about matter-of-fact reality. We all believe BMW makes the best-engineered cars on the planet hence the premium buyers are willing to pay. Scratch beneath that well-cultivated image, which is also backed by the media who positively spin in the interests and on behalf of BMW, and you end up discovering the Wizard of OZ really does hide behind a curtain.
The BMW N63 BiTurbo V8 is the first engine on the list to be outed by Ideal Media for being simply rubbish. The location of the turbos means that the engine is liable to overheating. Then an onboard message will flash up instructing the driver to drive moderately to cool the engine. It’s rather counterintuitive when the BMW N63 engine was built for performance.
Factor in engine oil leaks which can lead to a blown engine and fire and you have an expensive liability waiting to kill you. The N63 is an “amazing engine” says Ideal Media, but buyer beware.
