A new report has revealed that Tata Group is in discussions with Taiwanese supplier Wistron, to build a joint venture plant for the manufacture of Apple’s iPhones in India. The venture would be the Indian salt-to-software group’s latest push into technology manufacturing as it taps Wistron’s expertise in product development, supply chain and assembly, said Reuters in a report quoting Bloomberg.

According to the report, Apple has a few Indian partners who manufacture iPhones for the company such as Foxconn, Wistron, and Pegatron. And this report suggests that  the major Indian conglomerate Tata Group is likely planning to manufacture the Apple iPhone in India soon.

The plan could result in the Tata group buying equity in Wistron’s India operations or the two companies building a new assembly plant, or executing both those moves, the report added. Apple has bet big on India since it began iPhone assembly in the country in 2017 via Wistron and later with Foxconn, in line with the Indian government’s push for local manufacturing. Within the next two months, Apple plans to produce the iPhone 14 in India.
