Demat account fraud helpline number: Continuing with its ‘operation ‘Demat Daka’, Zee Business has released a WhatsApp number and email id to which victims of online fraud can send messages to report unauthorised trading in their accounts. The development comes after Zee Business Managing Editor Anil Singhvi, in a special show ‘Demat Daka’ aired on Tuesday, has revealed the modus operandi of scamsters who had been hacking demat accounts and wiping out funds of investors.
He had explained how they had been executing the fraud by just making a single call. Fraudsters, who disguise themselves as brokers, make a call in the name of completing KYC. Once they earn their trust, they ask for OTP from them. As the victims share their OTP, the fraudsters defraud investors by either transferring their funds or through some unauthorised transactions.
In many cases, it was found that these gangsters also replace good stocks with penny shares. Zee Business initiative came in response to several complaints made to the channel by the victims of demat fraud.

Soon after the show, the cyber arm of Mumbai Police on Tuesday busted a gang of fraudsters involved in using data of customers. According to a Mumbai Police Tweet, North Region Cyber Police Station arrested four men on charges of being involved in fraudulent activities.
Digital stockbroker Zerodha had also issued an advisory to its customers on cyber security. Zerodha had suggested rights steps for login and time-based one-time password (TOTP) for trading in penny stocks as well as illiquid options on its platform. It also mentioned how Demat accounts are compromised and pointed out a few commonsense security best practices.

Meanwhile, in order to help the victims of such frauds, Zee Business has shared a WhatsApp number (9582222666) or they can also write to the channel, explaining the issue, response@zeemedia.esselgroup.com. Besides, they can raise their complaints on social media handles of the channels too.
