Emergency teaser: Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut on Thursday unveiled her first look from the movie `Emergency`. Ranaut plays the late former prime minister Indira Gandhi in the film.
A Manikarnika Films presentation, ‘Emergency’ is produced by Renu Pitti and Ranaut. Ranaut, who has won four National Film Awards, has written and directed the film.
The prosthetics, the wardrobe and the demeanour are all reminiscent of the late prime minister. But critics were quick to point out that Kangana needs to work on the pronunciation of the word `Sir`, reported IANS.

“The film reflects one of the most important periods in Indian political history which changed the way we view power and that`s why I decided to tell this story,” Kangana said while talking about the story at an event in Mumbai.
“Moreover, playing a public figure on screen is always a challenge because one has to get the look, the characteristics and the persona right. I spent a significant amount of time researching the subject and once I felt I had enough ammunition, I commenced on the film`s shoot,” she added.
The film is slated for release early next year.
This is not the first political character played by Kangana Ranaut. Earlier, she played late former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalitha in ‘Thalaivi’.
It must be noted that the original event of state of Emergency was declared by Indira Gandhi on June 25, 1975. It lasted till March 21, 1977, post which the Janata Party was voted to power in a historic election.
