The England cricket team which is known for its slam-bang cricketing approach has once again come into the reckoning. This time the team has made the world record for most runs scored in an ODI inning. The England National team created a mountain of 498 runs while playing against the Netherlands. The England team has been touring the Netherlands and this was the first game of the series. England finished at 498/4 after their 50 overs. Philip Salt, Dawid Malan, Jos Butler, and Liam Livingstone were sensational with the bats. Here is an in-depth look at the same:
England Break ODI Record for Highest ODI Score Ever:
The day began on a sour note for England when they lost Jason Roy for 1. The scorecard read 1/1 when Dawid Malan walked into bat. But the Netherlands might be regretting taking the wicket of Jason as the Englishmen began piling the pain. Philip Salt came out as the question that was out of the syllabus. Salt is new to the international cricketing circuit.
Salt and Dawid Malan made the Dutch chase the leather-like never before. Every bowler was punished. The lowest economy was on Logan van Beek which was 8.2! Now, this speaks volumes of the tonking that the British gave the Dutch. They were intending to blast every ball bowled.
England broke the record of 481 runs that they had scored against Australia in 2018. This result is an outcome of the “SLAM BANG” cricket that the English management likes to play. This idea was backed effectively by Eoin Morgan and ever since England are a force to reckon with.
England 498/4 (50 Overs):
- Philip Salt: 122 runs 93 balls.
- Dawid Malan: 125 runs of 109 balls.
- Jos Butler: 162 of 70 balls.
- Liam Livingstone: 66 runs of 22 balls.

Jos Butler Plays a Dream Innings for England National Team:
The second mistake of the Netherlands team was to dismiss Philip Salt, when Salt left, England was at 223-2. That was the moment when Jos Butler walked in. Jos just proved why everyone addresses him as “Jos the Boss”. The form of TATA IPL 2022 was carried into international cricket. Jos Butler was ragging the Dutch bowlers. He was hitting boundaries for fun.
He also showed a varied range of shorts. His 360 game was on display. Jos got to his hundred in 46 balls. This made it the fastest hundred by an Englishman. Butler was on song and was feeling himself. Jos could have even got to a double hundred but Liam Livingstone played a masterclass at the other end.
Liam Livingstone who is currently the best range-hitter and top all-rounder on the globe played the innings of a lifetime. It was a blinder of 22 balls and Livingstone ended with 66 runs. He was batting at a strike rate of 300!
