Bollywood Boycott trend: #BoycottBollywood is trending these days on social media. Along with this hashtag, #BoycottBrahmastra and #BoyCottLigerMovie are also on the list of top trends on social media. These trending hashtags are seriously affecting Bollywood business and also directly affecting multiplex stocks. Zee Business Ekta Suri’s report.

According to the report, due to weak storyline and boycott trend, the films are getting flop one-by-one. Recent flops include Laal Singh Chaddha, Rakshabandhan, Dobara and Shamshera. And now this trend is gripping the soon-to-be-released Ranbir Alia’s film Brahmastra, Vijay Ananya’s film Ligar and Hrithik Saif’s Vikram Vedha.

PVR is down 12.9 percent, Inox Leisure Ltd by 13.6 sets and Cineline India Ltd by 15.5 percent so far since the film Laal Singh Chaddha was released. The movie hit the theaters on August 11.

All these stocks were at their 52-week high in the month of August before the release of Laal Singh Chaddha, Suri said.

She added that after the lockdown, multiplexes were waiting for big films. Bollywood was waiting for big earnings in the festive season but the trend of boycotts has ruined the hopes.

Not only #BoycottBollywoodTrend but weak storyline, hefty star cast fees, expensive movie tickets, demand for South films in North and cheap content on OTT platforms are also the reasons for the loss of Hindi films.

According to experts, if this trend of losses continues, then stocks like Eros International Media Limited, Tips Industries Limited and Saregama India Limited will also be affected badly.
