City Limits rounds up the latest housing and land use-related events, public hearings and upcoming affordable housing lotteries that are ending soon.

A former Jehovah Witnesses hotel at 90 Sands St. in DUMBO. Supportive housing organization Breaking Ground spent $170 million to buy and renovate the hotel into 491 affordable and supportive housing units.

Welcome to City Limits’ NYC Housing Calendar, a weekly feature where we round up the latest housing and land use-related events and hearings, as well as upcoming affordable housing lotteries that are ending soon. Upcoming Housing and Land Use-Related Events:

Thursday, Oct. 6 at 10 a.m.:  The City Council’s Subcommittee on Landmarks, Public Sitings and Dispositions meets to review landmarks applications in Manhattan, Brooklyn, The Bronx and Southeast Queens. More here.

Thursday, Oct. 6 at 11 a.m: The City Council’s Subcommittee on Zoning and Franchises votes on several rezoning applications, including a plan to build a 300-apartment complex along the Brucker Expressway in Throggs Neck. More here.

Thursday, Oct. 6 at 12 p.m: The City Council’s Land Use Committee votes on the Bruckner rezoning and several other applications. More here.

Thursday, Oct. 6 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.: The Association for Neighborhood Housing and Development hosts the Manhattan portion of its four-part annual conference. The event begins with a tour of the “Undesign the Redline” exhibition at Barnard College at 11 a.m., continues with 12:30 p.m. lunch and concludes with a panel discussion and reception at Riverside Church. The panel will be moderated by Mark Winston Griffith, executive director of Brooklyn Deep, and features New Jersey Citizen Action Financial Justice Program Director, New Jersey Citizen Action Beverly Brown Ruggia, Nos Quedamos CEO Jessica Clemente,  Sociology and Public Service Prof. Jacob William Faber of New York University’s Robert F. Wagner School of Public Service and Northern Manhattan Improvement Corporation Lead Organizer Jean R. Henry. Learn more and register for the conference here.

Thursday, Oct. 6 at 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.: HPD’s Outreach Van, in partnership with NYC Councilmember Eric Dinowitz and Community Board 8, will be located at West 231st Street and Broadway in The Bronx. In these vans, you can learn more about HPD and housing-related issues such as preparing to apply for affordable housing, understanding your rights and responsibilities, and filing a housing complaint. Friday, Oct. 7, 1 to 3 p.m.: Councilmembers Chi Ossé and Shahana Hanif host a “rat academy” for residents and property owners to prevent rats from entering their buildings at Restoration Plaza in Bed-Stuy. Register here.

Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 1 p.m.: The City Planning Commission is holding a public meeting to discuss various rezoning and relocation projects These meetings are accessible in-person, online or via phone to participate. More here.

Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 6 to 8 p.m.:  HPD is holding a virtual property management class providing information about protected classes in housing, emphasizing protections against discrimination for specificially low-income and individuals with disabilities. More here.

Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 9:30 a.m.: The Landmarks Preservation Commission will hold a public hearing over Zoom to discuss properties in Queens, Brooklyn, and Manhattan. Send written testimony to testimony@lpc.nnyc.gov by noon on Monday, Oct. 10. More here.

NYC Affordable Housing Lotteries Ending Soon: 

The New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) are closing lotteries on the following subsidized buildings over the next week.

  • 43-46 51st St Apartments, 50-11 Queens Boulevard, Woodside, for households earning $43,612 to $187,330
  • 99, 101, and 103 Grove St, 99 Grove St, Brooklyn, for households earning $75,429 to $156,130
  • 63 Lewis Ave., Brooklyn, for households earning $75,429 to $156,130
  • 31-25 Newtown Ave. Apartments, Astoria, for households earning $72,000 to $156,130
  • 2817 Atlantic Ave. Apartments, Brooklyn, for households earning $33,875 to $86,460
  • 45-57 Davis St. Apt, Long Island City, for households earning $75,235 to $156,130
