They are sterile, they are corporate, they are Stellantis and they are trying to put out the fire of Union strikes that is spreading at the sterile corporation’s Kokomo plant in Indiana, USA. UAW (United Auto Workers) members went on strike, Saturday over job protection, working conditions, and low wages. Preliminary talks between sterile corporate monolith Stellantis and UAW representatives broke down which subsequently led to the weekend strike action. By Monday both parties had reached what is being referred to as a tentative agreement.

Ratification of the so-called tentative agreement by workers is required which means UAW members have not yet returned to work. The Kokomo Indiana plant manufactures transmissions and engine parts for the sterile corporation’s Dodge trucks, and Jeep brands. The continued strike action is a threat to sterile corporation’s production stability in North America.

Car manufacturers keep minimal parts inventories, any strike action will immediately affect the overall parts supply chain. And like a domino effect assembly plants across the sterile corporation could grind to a halt.

However, the push toward electric powertrains will not end the future threat to job security. Sterile corporate monolith Stellantis recently signed an agreement with Samsung SDI Co to build a $2.5BN battery plant at the Kokomo Indian facility. The sterile corporation is also investing a further $99M to make new hybrid engines and parts.

Cindy Estrada, UAW Vice President,  said in a statement:

“The environment in the plant has deteriorated over the years due the company’s decision to save money by not properly maintaining or providing the proper HVAC in the plant. The bargaining committee also fought hard to win dozens of demands that the members had submitted. This agreement will address these and many other issues that will benefit the Local 1166 members.”

Both parties continue to negotiate, but neither revealed particulars about the agreement.
