The tennis ace has not competed since Wimbledon in July 2021. And has had to undergo a series of knee operations during his long and illustrious career.

Federer posted this news on Twitter, saying his farewell event will be the Laver Cup in London next week. That is a team event run by his management company.

To my tennis family and beyond,

With Love,

In his farewell message, Federer signed off saying: “Finally, to the game of tennis, I love you and I will never leave you.”

This news comes just days after the end of the US Open 2022, which was expected to be the last tournament of 23-time major champion Serena Williams’ career.

More details awaited.
