Miami Vice was a fictional TV cop drama that ran from 1984 to 1989. Being a millennial and not having any investment in TV shows from the last century, I am told it was the coolest cop show of its era, possibly of all time. So I watched a couple of episodes and rather unexpectedly got hooked and ended up watching all five seasons courtesy of a handy Blu-Ray collection.

The production values, the script, and the acting still hold up when compared with today’s TV cop/drama shows. Miami Vice went on to become a global hit in living rooms across the world. The show also set global fashion trends, people wanted to dress like the two principal characters, the fictional cops Crockett and Tubbs.

Crockett was played by Don Johnson, Tubbs was played by Phillip Michael Thomas, and these two set fashion styles for a generation. The cars driven by Crockett also gained attention. Notably the Ferrari Daytona and Testarossa. The Daytona was a replica because the originals were too expensive due to high demand.

The Testarossa was an original Ferrari, however, the show’s producers also substituted a replica for many of the chase scenes. The original was kept for beauty shots because it was considered too expensive to risk getting damaged.
